Looting & Loot Points

What a fallen player actually loses — Gloria Victis's Partial Loot system: the loot-points budget and the ~30-second window, the per-slot loot cost table, the 70%-damage priority, what can never be looted (gold, Glory, Contribution, skins), and how reputation and the traitor system change the maths.

~5 min read

Gloria Victis uses a Partial Loot system. When you fall in a loot zone an enemy can rob your corpse — but only ever a sliver of it. There's no full-loot brutality where one kill strips you bare, and no loot-free safety where death costs nothing: the system sits deliberately in between, so PvP carries real risk without being ruinous. This guide covers exactly what an attacker can take, what they can't, and how to travel so you keep what matters.

Sourcing

The mechanics and point costs below are drawn from the official Gloria Victis wiki and match the in-game loot-cost panel. Some of these figures predate the current relaunch, so treat any exact number as "roughly this" and confirm the live value in-game — the rules (partial loot, one gear piece, protected currencies) are what matter and are stable.

Where looting happens

Looting is a property of the zone you die in, not of who killed you. The minimap always shows your current zone — glance at it before you commit to a fight you can't afford to lose.

ZoneCan you be looted?
Safe zoneNo. Your capital and respawn — your nation can't even be harmed here.
Non-loot zoneNo. PvP is on, but no one is looted on death. About 70% of the map.
War / loot zoneYes. The centre and frontiers — you can be looted when you fall. The richest resources and best events live here, so the reward matches the risk.

Tip

Your Depot is account-wide, shared across all your characters, and never lootable — nothing stored there is ever lost on death. The rule that saves new players the most pain: travel light, store heavy. Carry only the loadout you're willing to lose into the loot zone.

The loot-points budget

When you kill somebody you get about 30 seconds to loot the body (and when you die, you can be looted for the same window). But you don't have free rein over it: the corpse carries a small pool of loot points that drains as the timer ticks down, and every item you pull costs points. So you must act fast and choose — you can't empty a corpse even if you stand on it the whole time.

  • Items the victim is wearing cost more points than items sitting loose in their bags.
  • You can take only one piece of equipment per corpse, no matter how many points are left.
  • Bag items cost less but take longer to sift through, burning your timer.
  • The most anyone can ever pull is one equipment piece (6 points minimum) plus materials (2 points per stack) — about 10 points' worth.
  • In practice a looter scores 1–3 items before the window closes.

Loot costs by slot

Bigger armour pieces cost more points than small ones — a chest plate is worth far more than a pair of boots. These are the points it costs to pull each equipped item off a corpse:

ItemLoot points
Chest piece8
Pants (legs)8
Weapon8
Shield8
Helm6
Shoulders6
Gloves6
Boots6
Materials (per 100)2

Key takeaway

Because the budget is only about 10 points and only one gear piece comes off, an attacker faces a real choice: take one 8-point big piece (chest, weapon, shield or pants), or one 6-point small piece plus a material stack. They physically cannot strip you — the worst any single kill costs you is one item you were wearing.

Who gets to loot — the 70% rule

In a crowd, the corpse isn't a free-for-all — at least not immediately. Any player who dealt 70% or more of the total damage to the kill receives a 3-second loot priority on the body. After those 3 seconds, anyone standing over it may loot as normal. It rewards the person who did the real work of the kill, but in a large fight a body becomes fair game very quickly.

What can never be looted

The things that hurt most to lose are protected outright — what's ever at risk is only the physical loadout you're actively wearing or carrying:

  • Gold / money — never drops on death.
  • Contribution Points and Glory Points — the PvP currencies are safe.
  • Skins — if someone loots an item you've applied a skin to, they get the base item, not your skin.
  • Anything in your Depot — account-wide and never lootable.

Looting materials & resources

You can pull crafting materials from a victim's bags for 2 points per stack, but there's a value cap so a single kill can't hand over a fortune in rare mats:

  • Higher-tier resources loot in smaller amounts — the rarer the material, the fewer of it you can take.
  • Looted resources are capped at 1 gold of market value per 2 loot points. If a stack is worth more than the cap allows, only the portion within the cap comes across.

Sell what you pull at the Market — looted gear and materials are ordinary items once they're in your bags.

Reputation & the traitor system change the maths

The loot points available on a corpse and the cost per item also shift with the victim's nation and their reputation / traitor status — the loot table above is the baseline for an ordinary enemy, not a fixed law.

  • Traitors are looted harder — killers get more loot points against a traitor, so a traitor loses more of their kit.
  • Traitors loot less off others, and can't loot their own nation's members at all.
  • Playing off your home server disables looting entirely — you can't loot or fish away from your main server.

How to keep what matters

Do this / not that

Do

  • Bank spare gear and currency in the Depot before a loot-zone run
  • Carry a single working loadout you're willing to lose
  • Deal the damage if you want the kill's loot — 70% earns you the 3s priority
  • Sell looted gear and mats on the Market

Don't

  • Haul your whole wardrobe into the map's centre
  • Assume a kill in a crowd is yours — after 3 seconds anyone can loot it
  • Expect to strip a corpse — you get one gear piece, full stop
  • Panic about gold or skins — those never drop
